The POWER of YOU! How I Almost Destroyed My Brand By Trying to Fit In

A Coach Told Me My Brand Name Was Too Quirky. Be Boring.
Here's What Happened Next...

Ever feel like you're lost at sea in this ever-changing online space? The algorithm rolls in like a heavy fog, clouding your radar, disrupting your path, and causing you to get off course. You're not sure which way to go....

Yikes! It feels like a big red ocean out here - the one many talk about: overcrowded, shark-infested, and honestly... exhausting.

šŸ”Š It IS loud out here! No doubt! We are all talking. Coaches. Creatives. Courses. Creators.

But here's what that noise represents: a $1 TRILLION industry by 2028. One TRILLION dollars of people desperate to reinvent themselves, to pivot, to start something new. And in this massive ocean of opportunity, most of us are drowning in sameness.

The biggest mistake I see new entrepreneurs make...and the one I made too!

We try to fit in instead of stand out. We water down our message. We hide our personality. We use generic language because it feels "safer." We ā€œChatGPTā€ everything! And then we sit in our beige businesses wondering why nobody remembers us.

What I have learned: BORING DOESN'T BUILD BUSINESSES.
Bold does. Brave does. Audacious does! The stuff that makes you weird, quirky, unique, unforgettable - THAT builds empires.

šŸ’„Let me tell you about the day I almost killed my own dream.

A coach, someone I respected and paid good money to, said in a hotseat one day, "Don't use REDLO. It's confusing. Keep it simple. Keep it boring."

I believed her. I changed it. I changed everything. Even though REDLO is described in my book as you and me. My avatar. My brand. My mission. My VISION!

And you know what happened?

I started shrinking. I started doubting. I started feeling disconnected. I lost momentum.

Not just in my business - but in ME. II got sad. 'd wake up each morning feeling like a stranger in my purpose and my vision. I put on someone else's glasses!

My content became vanilla. My voice got small and monotone. My energy flatlined. I'd sit at my computer, staring at a blank screen. I had forgotten how to sound like myself.

The woman who used to have bold opinions suddenly was afraid to be ME! YES, the VERY thing I talk about in my book Step Forward. The very thing I teach women…USE YOUR VOICE! Suddenly, my bold RED branding felt lost in a sea of beige. I was dying a slow, quiet death of mediocrity.

It took a hot jiffy minute…and then I realized…

I'd traded my power for permission - my personal prescription for someone else's vision. I'd given away the very thing that made me different, quirky, and dynamic...simply for the promise of fitting in.

I hired another coach!

This one looked at me and said, "REDLO is a MOVEMENT! It is powerful. It is you. It is your brand. It's everything you stand for. It empowers women! Why would you ever change that?"

šŸ’„NOW...in that moment, everything clicked. REDLO wasn't the problem - my confidence in it was. My confidence to be a thought leader, innovator, creator...

REDLO isn't just a name. It's a movement. An identity. A sense of belonging.
Quirky? Yep. šŸ’Æ
Memorable? For sure!

It came to me in a vision. It is "Older" spelled backward. We're not going back - we're redefining what it means to step into our power in midlife, and we are disrupting it! We're the generation that was told to be good girls - buttoned up, polished and palatable, to wait our turn and not be too much.

Screw that. Sorry, not sorry!

Sara Blakely made up the name SPANX and built a billion-dollar empire. She did research and discovered that made up names do FAR better than real ones and they are really easy to TRADEMARK!

Can I just get an amen?!?

Google is a made-up word. So is Etsy. So is Zingle, a business Sara Blakely's brother built and sold for $42Million in 2019! Not bad. Oprah created HARPO (her name backward) because she knew her authentic self was her brand.

When I reclaimed REDLO, everything changed!  My content had fire again. My audience grew. My revenue doubled, then tripled. But more than that - I remembered who I was. I stopped apologizing for taking up space and started commanding it.

Here's what I know now that I wish I'd known then:

Your weirdness is not a defect - it's an incredible asset. Your strong opinions aren't liabilities - they're your competitive advantage. Your authentic voice isn't too much - it's the exact frequency your people are desperately looking for in all this noise.

šŸ”„ Your controversial takes? That's what starts movements.

šŸ”„ Your weird sense of humor? That's what builds communities.

šŸ”„ Your bold vision? That's what no one else can replicate.

The world is drowning in sameness.

Every day, another entrepreneur launches with the same safe messaging, the same beige branding, the same forgettable approach. They're all fighting for scraps in the red ocean while the blue ocean - the space where only YOU exist - sits empty, waiting.

What are we really losing when women hide their power?

We lose the businesses that could revolutionize industries. We lose the voices that could change conversations. We lose the leaders who could show the next generation what's possible. We lose YOU - and the world needs YOU, not some watered-down version you think is more acceptable.

As Marianne Williamson says it best, ā€œOur deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.ā€

Most women are terrified of their own power. I was one of them. We've been conditioned to believe that being "too much" is the worst thing we could be.

šŸŽÆ June is Visibility Month at REDLO, and I'm issuing a challenge: GET VISIBLE

What is your idea? What is the NAME of that business, book, or podcast you want to create?

What is your REDLO moment?

The question isn't whether you're ready to stand out. The question is: How much longer can you afford to blend in?
