The 3 C's for Business Growth: Communication, Connection & Community

Communication. Connection. Community.
These aren’t just soft skills - they’re the lifelines of sustainable business growth. As someone who grew up in an entrepreneurial family and works with women today, to help them find their voice and step into business midlife, I’ve seen these 3 C’s show up time and time again. Whether you’re writing content, recording your podcast, or going live on video -communication and connection are key to growing your community and business.

Your message matters. But how you communicate, who you connect with, and the community you build is what helps your business thrive. Let’s break this down.

1. Communication → The Foundation of Clarity and Trust

Business is built on relationships and relationships are built on communication. People do business with people!
In our rapidly growing world of AI and technology, we often forget that people still to business with humans! So, if you’re not clearly expressing your message, your value, and your mission, people won’t understand who you are, what you do or why it matters.

  • -86% of employees and executives cite poor communication as the reason for workplace failures. (Salesforce study)

  • -Clear brand messaging increases revenue by up to 33%, according to a 2023 study by Lucidpress.

What this means for YOU:

Whether you're posting on social, emailing your list, or going live - you must learn to speak clearly and confidently - not to be the loudest... but to be heard, trusted, and remembered.

Try this: Practice sharing what you do in one sentence. I know, it's hard but so important. Mark Twain once said, "If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter." If it is too long and confusing to you then it will be confusing to them.

2. Connection → Build Relationships That Fuel Growth

In today’s world, people are overwhelmed with information but are starved for connection. We can Chat GPT anything to get information and data! But the businesses that grow are the ones that build relationships, and make people feel seen, heard, cvalued and understood.

Why it matters:

  • According to Edelman's Trust Barometer, 81% of consumers say they need to trust a brand (and people behind it) to buy from them. Today, trust is needed more that ever. People are tired of being sold. They have been burned from some the programs being sold online. They want access to the people creating courses. They want connection!

  • Personal Brands that connect emotionally outperform their competitors by 85% in sales growth. (Harvard Business Review)

What this means for YOU:

Stop worrying about perfect marketing - focus on authentic relationships. Whether it's replying to a DM, engaging with a follower, or checking in on a past client, every connection matters.

Try this: Reach out to 3 people today just to connect. Say hello! No pitch. Just presence. Just support.

3. Community → The Microsytem That Sustains You

As women in midlife launching businesses, many of us crave something deeper than transactions. We want to belong. And so do your clients. As human beings, we are wired for connection-which is why I say, "You are seen, heard, loved, valued and reminded that you belong" at the end of EVERY podcast! Community creates connection, loyalty, and support.

Why it matters:

  • 66% of branded communities say the community has impacted customer retention.

  • 85% of Gen Z and Millennials say they’re more likely to buy from a brand that fosters online communities.

What this means for YOU:

Don't build a customer list. Build a circle. Create a community. Grow a tight-knit tribe - a space where your audience feels like they belong. Because when they belong, they stay, they share, and they support.

Try this: Create a simple weekly touchpoint — a live chat, email, or post — that reminds your people they’re part of something bigger.

Together, the 3 C’s Create a Flywheel (think SoulCylce back in the day)!
Here’s the magic:

  • Communication fuels donnection.

  • Connection creates community.

  • Community gives you feedback to refine your communication - and the cycle grows stronger.

The stronger your communication, the deeper your connection. The deeper your connection, the richer your community. And the richer your community, the more resilient your business becomes. And the best part...you grow together!

Food For Thought:

You don’t need to go viral. You don’t need a massive audience.

What you need is to:

  • Speak clearly and consistently.

  • Show up to serve and connect.

  • Build a circle that believes in what you do.

Start here. Grow from there. And you’ll build something meaningful, lasting, and real.
