Conquering Self-Doubt and Tech Overwhelm to Build Your Online Business

Ever feel like the woman in the photo? I sure have! 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 intimidating and overwhelming as you 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮re 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. As women, we often face unique challenges that can hold us back from pursuing our entrepreneurial dreams. Two of the biggest hurdles I see in my coaching practice are self-doubt and technology overwhelm.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐭

Self-doubt is a universal experience for many of us, but research suggests that women are particularly susceptible to imposter syndrome. In fact, according to recent psychological studies, women are 30% more likely to experience imposter syndrome compared to men. Sadly, we question our abilities, minimize our accomplishments, and often feel like we're not good enough, even when we have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.

This self-doubt can be especially crippling in midlife when we're embarking on new ventures and stepping outside our comfort zones. We often think, "Am I too old to start something new?" or "Do I really have what it takes to succeed?"

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲.

The online world can feel scary and overwhelming, especially with its ever-changing platforms, algorithms, and technical jargon (check out my blog on understanding online business terms). Many women feel intimidated by the prospect of building websites, creating social media content, or navigating digital tools.

But here's the good news: technology is just a tool. And like any tool, once you understand how to use it, it becomes your superpower. You don't need to be a tech whiz to succeed online.

𝐒𝐨, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬? 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬:

1. 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲: Don't try to be everywhere at once. When you are first starting, select a platform (I say no more than 2-3) that aligns with your strengths and communication style. Do you like writing? Consider blogging. Do you like speaking and are you a natural storyteller? Consider podcasting or YouTube. Do you love visuals? Explore platforms like Instagram.

2. 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭: This is the person you want to help. It starts with getting crystal clear about who you want to serve. The more specific you are, the more powerful your message will be, and the more you can help! Trust your intuition and don't let others dictate your vision.

3. 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: You don't have to become a tech expert overnight. Start with simple tools like Canva and CapCut, and gradually expand your skills. Keep it simple! Don't be afraid to seek support from mentors and coaches. I can help you! I have learned to navigate the wild world of online biz with simple tech tools! I kind of nerd out on it and love it!

The online world can feel like a maze, with platforms constantly changing their algorithms and strategies. It's easy to get caught up in the chase for followers, likes and engagement. But remember, the most important thing is to connect authentically with your audience - not just seek vanity metrics with a "like".

You are capable of more than you can imagine. Don't let self-doubt or tech fear hold you back from pursuing your dreams. Embrace your midlife journey, step into your power, and build the online business you deserve.
